Museums, Art and Culture in Portsmouth

For most people, 'culture' is not a word they would associate with Portsmouth. Nor is 'art' or 'craft', but there are thriving communities of artists, crafters and musicians across the city who are turning Portsmouth and Southsea into a truly creative place to visit.

Many of the cafes and other spaces in the city host exhibitions of work, there are lots of craft and produce fairs, and music flourishes in the cities pubs and clubs as well as the bigger venues. Portsmouth’s Museum covers the history of the city, including the much-beleaugered football club, and shows exhibitions of more established art. The Historic Dockyard is home to some of the best-presented warships the Navy has sailed throughout the centuries. That history is the basis of the Victorious Vintage festival which has become a regular annual event and which is moving to the Southsea Common in 2014, such is it’s popularity. In fact Southsea Common is host to lots of fayres, shows and festivals throughout the spring, summer and autumn. The Russian State Circus are regular visitors in August. Many of these events take place within easy reach of the Seacrest, which makes us the ideal base for your visit.
