Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
Portsmouth has been a naval city for centuries, so there’s plenty of history to go around. The Historic Dockyard has been home to Nelson’s flagship, HMS Victory, for many years. The Victory saw action at the Battle of Trafalgar and the spot where Nelson was fatally shot is marked for posterity.
Also home to HMS Warrior, a formidable Victorian iron-clad warship, and the Mary Rose, now housed in a dedicated museum, the Dockyard hosts an amazing collection of historic fighting ships which are well worth visiting.
There is also the National Museum of the Royal Navy, and for the more energetic visitor, Action Stations brings alive the excitement of Navy life with simulators, a climbing tower and lots of interactive exhibits - there’s even a Laser Quest zone, that uses real-life exploits of the Marines to challenge you.
Take a boat tour of the harbour to view the Royal Navy ships in port, and enjoy a view of the historic harbour front from the water.
You can buy tickets for one or more Historic Dockyard attractions, or an overall ticket giving access to everything. This really is the highlight of any visit to Portsmouth!
